THE ROLE

As a Blade Technician you’re responsible for inspecting and repairing wind turbine blades during the transportation, installation and operational phases of construction and maintenance. This includes rectifying issues caused by contamination, impact damage fatigue loading or weather events such as rain, hail or lightning strikes.

CONTRIBUTION TO NET ZERO

Blade Technicians are in high demand. They’re essential to the efficiency of wind farms, ensuring they generate as much renewable electricity as possible, which helps to decarbonise the grid and reduce carbon monoxide emissions.

COMMON CAREER CHARACTERISTICS

QUALIFICATIONS

Blade Technicians generally require a mechanical trade such as the Certificate III in Engineering – Composites Trade, as well as a construction industry white card and a high-risk work license. 

Blade Technicians also require specialist training from providers who are fully accredited by the Global Wind Organisation.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities for Blade Technicians will continue to increase as more wind turbines are installed across Australia. The offshore wind industry will also present maritime opportunities from 2030.

As maintenance occurs seasonally during periods of stable weather, many Blade Technicians travel to the northern hemisphere for the Australian winter.

The most relevant roles in terms of transferable skills are Builders, Electricians, Engineers and Miners from across the construction, mechanical or industrial engineering, oil and gas, mining and metals, automotive and maritime sectors.
