As a Sustainability Manager, you will plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate the development and implementation of environmental and other management systems from within an organisation. This involves identifying, solving and alleviating environmental issues, such as emissions, pollution and waste reduction, in compliance with environmental legislation and the organisation’s net zero emissions and environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

Sustainabilty Managers often receive external support from Net Zero Business Advisors.

Sustainability Managers are essential to supporting organisations’ decarbonisation and wider  environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. They work within organisations to reduce emissions, including developing and delivering transition plans in support of decarbonisation goals.

There are no specific pre-requisit qualifications required to become a Sustainability Manager. An undergraduate degree in Environmental Management or Sustainable Development would be useful.

Net Zero Business Advisors are specialised service providers that may have previously worked as Accountants, Engineers, Project Managers, Sustainability Managers or in another business advisory capacity.

They may transition to become Sustainability Managers or ESG Leaders.
